The sportiest of the C-Class becomes a plug-in hybrid. This Mercedes AMG C63 S Performance combines a four-cylinder engine and an electric block, all for 680 hp!
If the last Mustang chose the first option, the sportiest C-Class decided to go the electrification route. The Mercedes-AMG 63 becomes a rechargeable hybrid! Hold out a little longer or cross the Rubicon.
Mercedes AMG C63 S: The New 680 hp C-Class Hybrid
So forget about the big 4.0-liter V8. Instead, Mercedes dares to use a 2.0 four-cylinder engine with an electrically assisted turbo. It announces here 476 hp, a record for a four-cylinder. But it is associated with an electric block of 150 kW, which is 204 hp. Unique feature: this block, equipped with a two-speed gearbox, is at the rear.

This assembly makes it possible to explode the maximum power. While it was 510 hp on the old C63 S, it now reaches 680 hp! The maximum torque is 1020 Nm. That’s enough to get crazy performances with a family sedan (or a station wagon, this body is also available): the 0 to 100 km/h is dispatched in 3.4 seconds. In the basic configuration, the top speed is limited to 250 km/h. The limit can be raised to 280 km/h.

This C-Class is equipped with a “4Matic+” all-wheel drive. The electric block drives the rear wheels but can also go the front wheels. You can drive all-electrically with four wheels (up to 125 km/h). The 63 model has a small 6.1 kWh battery. This limits the weight gain, as the battery (voltage 400V) weighs 89 kg.
The brand assumes. It was not a question of setting a distance record in electric mode – there is the C300 e for that – but of having a battery that stores and returns energy quickly. It is also used to reduce CO2 emissions. Mercedes has announced emissions of 156 g/km, which in France will result in a minimal penalty for the power.
Adaptive damping and rear wheel steering are standard. The driver can configure numerous technical settings according to various levels and programs. The screens and the head-up display are equipped with AMG-specific displays.
The most powerful C-Class keeps an exuberant appearance, with large air intakes or the grille with vertical bars. If the engine changes, the look does not betray an electrified side! A discreet slit appears on the hood. At the rear, the 63 can be recognized by its four angular tailpipes (they are round on the 43). Note that compared to a classic C, the length gains 8 cm!
