The German group intends to go further and presents today its “2024 Mercedes EQG Electric,” a new electric version of the legendary Mercedes G Class.
This shows that the electrification of the Mercedes range will not stop at sedans and other compact SUVs, and the German manufacturer offers us what it will be capable of.
Rugged, all-terrain electric vehicles will soon be available, and Mercedes doesn’t intend to leave Tesla’s Hummer, Rivian, or Cybertruck alone in this field. With the EQG concept, the German brand is showing that it wants to be one of those offering an electric alternative to adventurers.
2024 Mercedes EQG Electric, AN UNCOMPROMISING OFF-ROADER
Mercedes says the EQG concept – shown at the IAA in Munich – is the heir to the iconic G-class and is a “G” in that it makes no compromises. For example, the body is based on a sturdy ladder frame instead of a self-supporting body like most vehicles, and the design of the running gear was made with off-roading in mind.
According to the manufacturer, four individually controllable electric motors power the EQG concept, offering unique driving characteristics both on and off the road.
2024 Mercedes EQG Electric, THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE FOR OFF-ROADING
The design of the electric propulsion system works in favor of the EQG concept compared to the G-Class. Indeed, the batteries integrated into the ladder frame allow a shallow center of gravity. In addition, the electric motors that can deliver their maximum torque at very low rpm are great allies.
Mercedes plans to test its production version on the Schöckl test track, which has slopes of up to 60 degrees. This will enable it to carry the “Schöckl proved” quality certificate, which is mandatory for the Mercedes 463 series.

2024 Mercedes EQG Electric, CONTEMPORARY DESIGN STEEPED IN HISTORY
With this EQG concept, Mercedes didn’t want to stray too far from its iconic G-Class design while cleverly dressing up its newcomer to make it stand out from the combustion versions. For example, instead of the spare wheel cover at the back, there is a “lockable box with white light accents, reminiscent of a wallbox design,” Mercedes said in its release.
