Alfa Romeo is still hoping to expand its range with a fifth model. A large electric SUV is clearly preferred by the management, although a more compact sedan could also be of interest.
Alfa Romeo is not secretive about its model renewal plan, with a new Stelvio set for next year, followed by a new Giulia in 2026. What comes after is not yet fully decided. Two paths are possible, but the one favored by management is still pending. Its future depends on the outcome of the year-end American election.
A large electric SUV, positioned above the Stelvio, would make sense to showcase the Alfa Romeo brand’s positioning. It is impossible to truly be considered a premium brand without a presence in the E segment facing off against BMW iX, Mercedes EQE, Audi Q8, and a plethora of Chinese models. With the STLA Large platform, Alfa Romeo has all the elements at its disposal to design such a model.
However, its sales will heavily depend on the American market, where the Italian brand plans to stay. But the presidential election could change things. A reelection of Donald Trump would certainly deal a severe blow to the expansion of the electric market across the Atlantic. Nonetheless, this project is the preferred option for Jean-Philippe Imparato for a launch in 2027.
A sedan and a Spider to replace the SUV?
The other option is more focused on the European market, as it involves a new Giulietta. A compact sedan, also electric, that would be based on the STLA Medium platform and share components with the future 308, Astra, and Delta. Apart from not being an SUV, this project has another strong point to appeal to Alfisti: it would pave the way for the return of a Spider in the lineup…
So, the money from the SUV, or the passion of Alfisti?
