The Chevrolet Equinox EV is the newest member of Chevrolet’s lineup of electrified vehicles alongside the Silverado EV, Blazer EV, as well as the Bolt EV, and the Bolt EUV.
Designed for families, the SUV was created with the idea of offering practical and affordable utility. Its format differs from the Blazer EV, which is more performance-oriented and slightly larger.
“We are at the point where electric vehicles will be the main choice for the next generation of customers. The Chevrolet Equinox EV will lead that charge for us,” said General Motors President and CEO Mary Barra.
American inspired
Aesthetically, the designers wanted to create an “American cool” effect. Thus, they were inspired by car designs from the 1960s and 1970s but also by the wide open spaces and landscapes of the country.
The Chevrolet Equinox EV features clean, sporty lines. Lt trims can come with a white roof, while RS trims have access to the black. In addition, the rim size varies from 19 to 21 inches.
As for the cabin, it displays sporty lines, a multimedia system with an 11-inch screen, or 17.7-inch as an option, as well as 11-inch instrumentation. Heated front and rear seats and configurable mood lighting are also available.
On the practical side, the trunk has a maximum volume of 1,614 liters when the seats are folded down. The Equinox EV does not have a front storage compartment.
Up to 480 km range
Built on the Ultium platform, the Equinox EV will be marketed in two distinct versions (LT and RS) and will be offered with the choice of two batteries. With the smaller battery, the output is 210 horsepower and 242 lb-ft of torque. This data climbs to 290 horsepower and 346 lb-ft of torque for the other stack.
Depending on the configurations, the range will vary between 400 and 480 kilometers.
- 1LT: Traction (400 km), Traction (480 km), Integral (450 km)
- 2LT/2RS: FWD (480 km), AWD (450 km)
- 3LT/3RS: Integral (450 km)
Using a type 2 station (11.5 kW), General Motors (GM) estimates that you can regain 54 kilometers in one hour, while it is 82 km with a station of 19.2 kW (optional module). Fast charging at 150 kW recovers 112 km in 10 minutes.
Full of technology
The industry trend is toward safety and driver assistance technologies — the Chevrolet Equinox EV is no exception. The Chevrolet Safety Assist suite includes the lane following system with lane departure warning and the automatic emergency braking system in reverse.
Adaptive cruise control, 360-degree camera, head-up display, and digital rear-view mirror are among the options catalog. Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving is also available.

As of this writing, Chevrolet is announcing an entry price of $35,000 for the 1LT trim, making it eligible for both provincial ($7,000) and federal ($5,000) rebates. The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV is expected to be available in fall 2023, starting with a limited-edition 2RS.
This version will be distinguished by its exclusive color, and it will incorporate all the technologies of the normal 2RS variant. The infotainment system with a 17.7-inch screen and 11-inch instrumentation come standard.
