Alpitronic Announces MCS Charging for 2025
Following ChargePoint, Alpitronic has announced the launch of the MCS (Megawatt Charging System) technology for 2025. Electric trucks will soon be able to benefit from charging stations with a power of 1,000 kW.
Philip Senoner, the man behind Alpitronic, has announced the deployment of MCS technology for 2025. Present at the E.ON Drive Summit in Munich, he took the opportunity not to let his American competitor, ChargePoint, who also announced the arrival of this ultra-fast charging at their stations, escape. Alpitronic will offer a Megawatt charging system for electric trucks in Europe.
However, many details are missing. The Italian manufacturer did not specify the charging power available on these future stations. We do know that the system developed by Alpitronic will offer “integrated charge management to intelligently distribute the available energy among the vehicles at a single depot.” Surprisingly, the company does not mention public stations, as if it were not a priority.
The Democratization of Electric Trucks Coming Soon?
Indeed, Philip Senoner states that “charging a truck is much more complex than charging a car.” According to him, operators do not want to “lose time” and “refuse to recharge trucks en route.” This is why the company is focusing on electrifying logistics centers rather than on public charging. But Alpitronic knows that MCS technology will also need to be deployed on the roads.
The company is already well established in Europe. For example, it equips Milence, the Dutch company that recently opened a station for electric trucks in Normandy. Mercedes Truck also allows its customers to purchase Alpitronic charging stations. While waiting for MCS technology to arrive at public stations, the head of Alpitronic suggests that manufacturers install a second CCS port on electric trucks.
