Unknown in our country, Genesis will develop its offerings to target the top end of the electric vehicle segment.

As the premium branch of the Hyundai-Kia group, Genesis leverages Korean platforms to offer numerous petrol, hybrid, and electric models in North America and some European countries (but not yet in France). To strengthen its position, Genesis will launch the Magma sports sub-brand as well as a new electric platform.

Presented for the first time at the New York Auto Show, this new eye-catching lineup will be inaugurated by the GV60 Magma. This was announced by the company at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where the SUV had the opportunity to show off its mesmerizing aero wheels. While technical details are scarce at the moment, the GV60, which uses the e-GMP platform, is likely to adopt the powertrain from the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.

However, the South Korean company plans to differentiate itself from Hyundai and Kia by rolling out a new electric platform for its high-end models. The aim is to bridge the technological gap with Tesla as well as European benchmarks like BMW. No details have been disclosed yet, except that this base will eventually replace the e-GMP unit entirely.

It remains to be seen what technical choices will be made for this platform, considering that the e-GMP is already at the top of the hierarchy among electric platforms… ahead of BMW’s multi-energy platforms or Tesla’s platform.
