Hyundai will unveil the Inster, a small electric city car, by the end of the month, promising a good range.

The Hyundai electric family is expanding with the addition of a city car. Its name? Inster. It is derived from the Casper, a small model launched by the brand in South Korea in 2021. The good news is that this electric version will be sold in Europe.

With the Inster, Hyundai will finally offer a more affordable electric car in Europe, as the Kona starts at €36,850 with a range of 377 km. Of course, it is a much smaller model as it will join the A segment, the same as the Twingo. Like the Casper, the Inster will have a pocket-sized SUV look. The model will feature a cheerful appearance, with teasers showing large round headlights at the front. It will also have the pixel light signatures typical of the electric range.

However, there is still doubt about the price. It is speculated to be under €25,000, a symbolic threshold that is becoming increasingly difficult to exceed for a small vehicle. Hyundai already announces a maximum range of 355 km in WLTP cycle, a significant value for a model in this category. For comparison, a Dacia Spring offers only 230 km with a 26.8 kWh battery. This suggests that the Inster could have a battery of over 40 kWh, which could affect the price. Unless there is a base model with a smaller battery option available.

The price will also depend on the possibility of receiving a bonus. The Inster will be produced in Korea, but its compact size may still qualify for the minimum eco-score. The vehicle will be unveiled at the end of the month at the Busan Motor Show in South Korea.
