According to General Motors’ boss, Mark Reuss, it is not impossible that the Chevrolet Camaro will make its comeback in a 100% electric version. And at an attractive price, below the $35,000 mark.
A comeback of the Camaro in an electric version?
Chevrolet recently decided to halt production of its Camaro. The last units rolled off the assembly lines in December 2023. This was a blow to fans of this iconic model, especially in the United States. However, the brand has always been clear on the matter: the Camaro will return. “While there is no immediate successor, this is not the end of the Camaro story,” as was stated at the time.
We are starting to learn more about the next chapter of the model. Speaking to our colleagues at MotorTrend, Mark Reuss, the head of General Motors, stated that he wanted the car to “return to its roots”. He also said he wanted it to be “affordable” to “appeal to a wide audience”. He suggested that the Camaro could come back in a 100% electric version “at the same price as the Equinox EV”.
In the United States, this electric model starts at $34,995. At that price, a potential electric Camaro would be more expensive than its predecessor, which was priced at $30,900. However, as a 100% electric version, the Chevrolet would benefit from the tax credit in effect in the United States, amounting to $7,500. This would make the vehicle cost $27,495. It’s becoming interesting.
We don’t know much more about this future Camaro other than that the design of the model has not yet been decided. Sedan or SUV, the manufacturer still needs to make a decision. Could it be a 4-door coupe? It all depends on the brand’s strategy. Regardless, this electric Camaro will have to find its place between the Blazer EV and the Equinox EV. With so many unanswered questions, the model likely won’t see the light of day anytime soon.
