Discovering “in real life,” in a Parisian garage, the Alpine A290 sparks both caution and excitement. On one hand, it’s hard to ignore the close relationship between it and the new Renault 5 E-Tech electric. The Alpine sports brand of the Renault group had indicated its intention to create its own version of the R5 after unveiling the A290 “beta” concept last year. This model sharing dates back to 1976 when Alpine revamped a Renault 5 to compete with the Volkswagen Golf GTI. On the other hand, we are faced with the first-ever 100% electric realization by the Dieppe brand, which aims to transition fully to electrons by 2026.
1. Future Alpine A290 electric’s significance:
The A290 is aesthetically more subdued compared to the A290β, with a conventional interior layout similar to the Renault 5 E-Tech. The vias are 6 cm wider than its Renault platform, giving it a unique stance. The short length (3.99 m) & height (1.52 m) puts it on par with an Urban SUV. The vehicle features a sharp front end with a sporty look and a unique rear design.
2. Under the hood, two power levels are offered:
The Alpine A290 GT packs 180 hp and 285 Nm, upgradeable with GT Premium and GT Performance packs. The A290 GTS tops the range with a 220 hp motor. Battery capacity is 52 kWh, with an estimated range of 380 km. The vehicle promises 0-100 km/h in 6.4 seconds for the top variant, emphasizing performance and agility.
3. A tech-filled cabin:
The Alpine A290 features a distinctive steering wheel with colored buttons, akin to Formula 1 cars. A special “overtake” mode boosts power momentarily. The car also offers regenerative braking control and an advanced telemetrics system for live driving data. The interior boasts premium leather upholstery and a blend of modern displays and controls for an enhanced driving experience.
4. Pricing and availability:
Produced in France, the A290 will be available in various colors, with a base price of 38,000 € for the 180 hp GT variant. An exclusive GTS Premiere Edition will include additional features, catering to the brand’s premium appeal. Competing with models like Cupra Raval, Volkswagen ID.2 GTI, and others, the Alpine A290 enters a competitive landscape with its unique blend of performance and electric technology.
Enhancing the driving experience with innovative features, the Alpine A290 aims to set new benchmarks in the electric sports car segment, combining style, performance, and eco-friendliness for a thrilling driving experience.
