Volkswagen is preparing to launch the seventh generation of its Transporter, an iconic model for the brand since 1950. The head of design at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has revealed the first details of the model.

First hints on the design of the Volkswagen Transporter

The Wolfsburg firm has just revealed the first hints about the design of the future Transporter. As promised, this seventh generation will also be available in an electric version. The vehicle, described by Volkswagen as a “production-like concept”, is expected in the first quarter of 2025. Orders are already open in Germany. In the manufacturer’s country, the model starts at €36,780.

According to Albert Kirzinger, chief designer at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, the T7 “takes design elements characteristic of its six predecessors, but gives them a new interpretation”. It is a bit of a tradition at Volkswagen: each new Transporter connects with the previous generation by incorporating details, while marking a fairly distinct break with a new style.

The T7 will be produced in both 100% electric, plug-in hybrid, and possibly also in diesel versions. The design chief revealed that the charging port flap would be located under the right headlight. According to Mr. Kirzinger, the van “enters a new era and gets closer to its big brothers, the Multivan and ID. Buzz”. He specifies that the rear end is a nod to the T5, especially with the shape of the lights.

This cousin of the Ford e-Transit is highly anticipated by professionals. For those looking to switch to electric, there will be a choice of 4 different power levels: 85, 100, 160, or 210 kW. The base version will have a 54 kWh battery, while the others will have a larger 83 kWh pack. The range is expected to be around 380 km in the best-case scenario. Looking forward to seeing what this new Volkswagen Transporter will look like.
