The first hybrid Bugatti will arrive in 2027 without W16

Future Bugatti will adopt a hybrid engine to be the first hybrid Bugatti. The brand dates its first electrified model to 2027.

Bugatti has worked for many years with its W16, an engine producing around 1,500 horsepower. The latest creation of the French firm, the Mistral, also adopts this engine.

But by presenting this novelty at Pebble Beach, Bugatti confirmed that it was its last 100% thermal model. Indeed, the firm had already announced that the first electrified Bugatti would not be electric. However, limited series may be born before the first hybrid.

Indeed, it will appear by 2027 and abandon the venerable W16. The smaller architecture of future Molsheim vehicles will also make it possible to present different concepts.

“It offers opportunities,” Achim Anscheidt, Bugatti’s design director, told Autocar. “There are opportunities to have slightly more athletic forms in the future, without losing the overall generosity and sovereignty. »

“It will also have its limitations, due to performance and demand in the field. But we know every inch of our cars so well now that we know exactly what would help us. »

Frank Heyl, his deputy, confirms that future Bugatti hybrids will have a more distinct design. “It’s going to be amazing, in terms of technology, in terms of innovation, it’s going to be unexpected. This design will completely surprise people, and it is a real joy to work on this project. »
