Vinci significantly improves the presence of charging points on the A9 motorway, between Orange and Spain. Stations are arriving at rest areas.

Our report published a few days ago showed that it is still not chaotic around the charging stations on major roads during the busiest days. The network of charging stations has expanded well, under the constraint of the law, which required the presence of charging stations at all service areas by 2023.

But the highway companies don’t stop there. At Vinci, charging stations are starting to appear at rest areas, areas without gas station (and no shop either). This helps to improve the network infrastructure and better distribute drivers along an axis.

For example, on the A9, one of the most frequented highways in summer, as it serves part of the Mediterranean and leads to Spain, starting from Orange and passing near Montpellier or Narbonne. In recent weeks, 41 new fast charging points have been put into service at rest areas. In detail:

  • In the direction Orange – Spain

– Lespignan Nord rest area, in Hérault: new station with 12 charging points operated by Allego.
– Rivesaltes rest area, in Pyrénées-Orientales: new station operated by Electra, offering 9 charging points.

  • In the direction Spain – Orange

– Pia rest area, in Pyrénées-Orientales: new station with 9 charging points operated by Electra.
– Lespignan Sud rest area, in Hérault: new station operated by Allego offering 11 charging points.

And that’s not all. Vinci Autoroutes indicates that “in the coming months, 57 new charging points will be put into service at the Gasparets and Bages rest areas, located in the Aude department, as well as at the Nabrigas, Gigean Nord and Loupian rest areas, in Hérault”.

In total, nearly 100 charging points will be added this year on this axis, which already seems ready for the 2025 highway traffic.
