Starting July 1st, Allego will implement an additional charge per minute for those who stay at a charging station for too long. The goal is to free up access more quickly.
Attention if you are used to charging at an Allego station or if you come across one on your summer road trip. The operator will update its pricing starting on July 1, 2024.
The cost per kWh on fast and ultra-fast charging stations remains €0.59 in France. However, Allego will add extra charges for those who remain connected for too long. This idea is not new, as others may do the same.
The aim is to encourage drivers to leave the charging station after a certain time to free it up and facilitate rotation. It seems no coincidence that the change is happening on July 1st, as it marks the beginning of summer vacations and the charging stations will experience a peak in usage, especially with the increasing number of electric vehicles on the roads.
At Allego, this occupancy tax will start after 45 minutes, which is still a fairly generous timeframe. The operator emphasizes that within this timeframe, there is plenty of time to go from 10 to 80% charge, which is recommended during a journey to optimize stop time.
It would be better to leave before the 45-minute mark, as the additional charge will be steep: it will be €0.248 per minute!
