Mini prepares the first electric JCW sports car

GTI, R, HF, RS… at Mini, the most sporty models wear the three letters JCW, for John Cooper Works. The new Mini electric will soon join the growing range of small electric sports cars.

The Mini Cooper range now consists of two distinct vehicles: the thermal version, an evolution of the previous generation, and the electric version, a brand-new model designed in partnership with the Chinese group Greatwall. Despite this duality, Mini intends to offer a similar range between the two versions. So there’s no jealousy, and the spiciest version John Cooper Works will be available in both thermal and electric versions.

After its official photo shoot at the Brooklands circuit, the prototype of the new electric Mini John Cooper Works will be presented at the Goodwood Festival of Speed from July 11th to 14th. It is expected to participate in the famous hill climb. It’s a prototype, so there will be no total reveal of the vehicle. However, the surprises will clearly not come from the style. Judging by the published pictures, the exterior of the vehicle appears to be strictly identical to the already available JCW finish.

So, everything will happen on the mechanical side, and the JCW E is expected to offer more than the 160 kW / 218 hp to be part of the electric “hot hatch” revival, alongside the Alpine A290, MG4 XPower, Smart #1 Brabus, Lancia Ypsilon HF or Abarth 600e, Kia EV3 GT, awaiting a Volkswagen ID.2 GTI…
