Rest assured, the future of the BMW range does not only revolve around SUVs. The Bavarian test tracks are currently being traversed by the prototype of a new electric coupe that will lead the Neue Klasse family.
Next year, BMW will launch the first models based on the Neue Klasse platform. This platform is dedicated to electric vehicles and its name recalls the models launched in the 1960s that saved the brand while establishing its image as a maker of sporty cars. The new model family will kick off with the iX3 SUV, followed by numerous other vehicles covering the C and D segments by the end of the decade, for both BMW and Mini.
Alongside all these SUVs and sedans, BMW understands the importance of retaining a model in its lineup that better conveys its sporty identity. An electric coupe has been spotted near the manufacturer’s test track. The car is quite advanced in its development, and although the style details are still hidden, the prototypes already give us an idea of its proportions. It is expected to hit the market around 2026, conveniently coinciding with the end of production for the Z4. Will the new model carry the M badge?
An important detail is that the prototype seems to be utilizing four wheel motors. BMW has invested millions in a specialist in this technology, Deepdrive. With this setup, the electric coupe could potentially deliver over 1000 hp in its ultimate versions, while maintaining reasonable proportions.
