With only one model in Europe, Lynk & Co will soon welcome its first electric vehicle. The Z20 is a compact SUV closely related to other well-known vehicles in the Geely Group.
Having started a bit late in the electric market, Geely has picked up the pace with new releases multiplying. It seems like there’s a new electric model from one of its brands almost every month. Now it’s Lynk & Co’s turn to join the trend. Following its large sedan Z10, mostly aimed at the Chinese market, the Z20 SUV is on the way.
A Zeekr X Coupe
As usual, the brand has not established a hierarchy in its range through naming conventions. The Z20 is simply the model following the Z10, and the third electric model will be… the Z30. In terms of dimensions, the Z20 is directly intended for Europe. Its size is very close to the Zeekr X. A model with which it shares a certain style similarity. It is worth noting that the Zeekr X project originated from Lynk & Co. Despite the poor quality of the images, common points can be easily identified in terms of the doors or the front fender/hood/A-pillar junction. The Z20 is therefore roughly envisioned as a kind of Zeekr X Coupe.
The SEA2 platform will be strictly identical, making the Z20 also a relative of the Smart #1 or Volvo EX30. It will feature the same 200 kW (272 hp) rear motor and a 66 kWh battery. The range could be slightly higher than the X’s 440 km, thanks to a slightly more favorable Cx through the inclined rear hatch. The charging power will be the same (150 kW) and it will take about thirty minutes to charge from 10 to 80%. Lynk & Co could remain faithful to its current marketing strategy: one model, one version, no options. The all-wheel-drive version is unlikely to be offered here.
By sharing its genetics with the Zeekr X, the Lynk & Co Z20 will also share the strengths (comfort and handling, spaciousness, quality of finish, multimedia system performance) and weaknesses (trunk volume, intrusive driving aids…). The launch is planned for China this fall and in Europe at the beginning of 2025. Its price is expected to be slightly below the Zeekr X, likely around 40,000 euros.
It should be noted that this Lynk & Co, like its Smart and Zeekr counterparts, is a strong candidate to follow in the footsteps of the Volvo EX30 in its production in Europe…
