A 250 kg bomb dating back to World War II has been found on the site of the Tesla factory expansion in Germany. Explosives experts plan to detonate it on Saturday, June 29, 2024.
A few weeks ago, Tesla officially announced the expansion of its Berlin factory. Against the wishes of the population, the American manufacturer decided to embark on extensive construction work to increase its European production. In total, the extension requires clearing 100 hectares of forest. The company obtained authorization from the representatives of the city of Grünheide to undertake this project.

In the future, Tesla could manufacture its electric truck in Germany. This is at least what Elon Musk hinted at during his visit last March. But before that, the manufacturer must face a significant problem: a 250 kg bomb dating back to World War II was found on the expansion site. Since it cannot be transported, it will need to be detonated.
The explosion is scheduled for Saturday, June 29, 2024 between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm according to the Brandenburg Ministry of the Interior. The exact exclusion zone is not yet known, but authorities typically delineate a perimeter of about one kilometer around the bomb. Two national roads near the site will be closed. Tesla will also have to temporarily halt production this weekend.
It is quite common to find bombs and munitions from World War II on German and French construction sites. This one is particularly large, but construction should be able to resume on Monday.
