In collaboration with ChargePoint, Airbnb is helping American hosts install charging stations at their homes. Demand is increasing, and the application wants to offer a solution that matches the market.

Airbnb and ChargePoint partner in the United States

Between 2022 and 2023, searches using the filter “electric vehicle charging station” on Airbnb increased by 80%. To support the growth of the automotive sector in the United States, the application has decided to partner with ChargePoint. Together, the two companies will provide financial assistance to hosts to encourage them to install chargers at their homes.

This includes a 25% discount, currently only available in the United States. The partners specify that only ChargePoint chargers sold at a price equal to or greater than $399 are eligible. American hosts will also receive a $100 discount on the installation of the charging station if purchased on the ChargePoint website.

Lastly, Airbnb is offering an additional $200 to the first 1,000 hosts who purchase a charger through ChargePoint. According to the company’s data, listings that offer a home charger are booked for “more nights” and generate “higher average income” than those that do not offer one.

In the United States, California, Florida, Texas, Arizona, Washington, and North Carolina are the states where the “charging station” filter is the most popular. This reflects the evolution of the American market: California, Florida, Texas, and Washington are the top 4 states in terms of new electric vehicle registrations.

According to Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint, “Ensuring that all drivers are able to recharge when and where they need it remains our top priority“. The American company aims to “remove obstacles to the adoption of charging solutions“, in order to continue encouraging drivers to switch to electric vehicles.
