Citroën makes an impression by launching the cheapest electric SUV. The Ë-C3 Aircross starts at only €27,400 before bonuses. But what do you get for this price?
The chevrons have entered a new era. With the renewal of the C3 and C3 Aircross, Citroën is now playing the card of an accessible manufacturer, clearly aligned with Dacia. The second generation of the SUV has its sights set on the Duster, with an entry ticket lower than €19,400 compared to €19,690 for the Romanian model.
And even with its electric variant, the C3 Aircross makes a strong impact. This one starts at €27,400, excluding bonuses. It becomes the cheapest electric SUV, while an MG ZS EV starts at €33,990. But with such an attractive price, do we get a stripped-down and less recommendable vehicle?
Short Range
On a technical level, as we saw during our preview of the vehicle, we have to deal with a short range. The Ë-C3 Aircross is equipped with a 44 kWh LFP battery, Citroën mentions a WLTP mixed cycle range of 300 km.
It will be less in reality… and even less on highways. A real handicap for longer journeys. With its large size of 4.39 m, this model is designed to be the primary vehicle of a household, not a secondary vehicle for daily commutes. The 113 hp motor may also be lacking. It also comes without a heat pump.
In terms of appearance, the base version called You has a basic look. Compared to the high-end Max version showcased in the presentation, the You model lacks two-tone paint, aluminum-colored inserts in the bumpers, colored customization strips, tinted rear windows, or roof bars. Instead of 17-inch wheels, it comes with 16-inch wheels with stylish wheel covers.
Good Equipment
Inside, the most noticeable absence is the touch screen, replaced by a smartphone holder, creating a gap. However, once the phone is connected, it can be controlled from the steering wheel buttons. It is worth noting that the presentation is not dull thanks to copper-colored accents and light areas.
The plus point is the equipment. The You version is not stripped down. It comes with standard features such as manual air conditioning, rear parking sensors, electric mirrors, height-adjustable driver’s seat, and driving aids mandated by Europe, including automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and traffic sign recognition. So, there is no skimping on features.
This ultimately offers a coherent proposition at a very competitive price. However, due to its low price, one could easily opt for an upgraded version. For an additional €2,100, the “Plus Package” offers a more polished look (two-tone paint, aluminum-colored inserts…), a touch screen, automatic climate control, and comfortable Advanced Comfort seats.
