Hyundai plans to update its electric sedan. The Ioniq 6 will undergo a refresh, including some aesthetic changes and technical updates.

A new Ioniq 6 for 2025

According to the Korean media ET News, a restyled version of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 is expected in May 2025. Launched in 2022, the model will just be celebrating its 3rd anniversary. The South Korean manufacturer does not wait long before updating its models, typically around four years. A prototype of the new Ioniq 6 is set to be revealed next month.

Series production will start in February 2025 for the South Korean market, August for Europe, and November for the United States. Hyundai plans to manufacture 60,000 units of its new electric sedan annually in South Korea. Expect some aesthetic changes such as revised bumpers, lights, and rims.

Hyundai is likely to replace the current 77.4 kWh battery in the Ioniq 6 with a larger 84 kWh one, similar to the upgrade seen in the new Ioniq 5. This upgrade could potentially increase the range from 614 to 650 km. While not a significant increase, every bit of extra range is beneficial.

A sporty version for Europe in 2026?

A Hyundai Ioniq 6 N could be in the works as well. This sportier version of the electric sedan is expected to launch in September 2025 in South Korea, with a European release in early 2026. Hyundai aims to produce 6,000 units of the Ioniq 6 N annually at the Asan plant. In Europe, the price of the Ioniq 6 N is estimated to be around 78,000 euros.

To cater to the American market, Hyundai is also revising its production strategy. The Ioniq 6, currently manufactured in South Korea, might also be produced in the United States, specifically in Ellabell, Georgia. Local production would make the electric sedan eligible for the $7,500 bonus available in the U.S. market.

The Ellabell production site is still under construction with completion expected in November 2024. This plant will be Hyundai’s first facility dedicated entirely to electric vehicles.
