100% Fun Performance and a Style of Its Own – Cupra Tavascan VZ
With outstanding performance and a unique style, the highly anticipated Tavascan by Cupra finally hits the road. Cupra lets us take the wheel of its appealing electric SUV, which may just be the coolest in its category. Here’s our review of the Cupra Tavascan VZ.
Cupra Tavascan Look: A Unique Character
The first thing that catches our eye is its bold design. The Cupra Tavascan VZ is an electric coupe SUV with a sporty, somewhat aggressive front end. It boasts elements like the Seat Bocanegra “mask,” triangular LED lighting, and a shark-like nose. The Tavascan continues with a forward-leaning silhouette despite its coupe SUV profile. The raised rear end and generous waistline give it a unique appearance. Standout features include the backlit Cupra logo on the hood and the LED strip at the rear. Overall, it exudes a “production concept car” vibe and turns heads wherever it goes.
Given its MEB platform, it shares similarities with the Volkswagen ID.5, showcasing beautiful proportions and large 21-inch aero wheels with copper tones. It also offers 19 and 20-inch wheel options based on the trim level. It measures 4.64 m long, 1.86 m wide, and 1.59 m high, with a wheelbase of 2.76 m, highlighting its agility and massiveness as a coupe SUV. While its expressive design may not be everyone’s cup of tea, the Tavascan VZ perfectly blends sportiness with a touch of elegance. Ideal for enthusiasts seeking a strong character that fits into the modern automotive landscape.
Interior: Still Futuristic
While the exterior design impresses, it’s the interior that truly surprises. With curves on the upper end and a standout central console, the Cupra Tavascan VZ resembles a spaceship straight out of a sci-fi movie. The centerpiece is the floating central console that elegantly merges with the dashboard. The large 15-inch multimedia screen in the center stands out for its responsiveness. The only drawback is the touch-sensitive slider under the screen, which can be a bit tricky to use for adjusting volume and temperature. Despite this, the multifunction steering wheel is comfortable, although the large touch-sensitive buttons may have a slight delay in response.
Performance: From Daily Efficiency to Total Fun
This is what the Cupra Tavascan VZ offers in terms of performance. While the V model features 210 kW (286 hp) and 545 Nm, the VZ takes it further with 80 kW and 134 Nm additional power at the front, resulting in a total output of 250 kW (340 hp). This translates to 0-50 km/h in 2.4 seconds and 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. For daily comfort and convenience, Range and Comfort driving modes are ideal. In Performance mode, the Tavascan VZ becomes more responsive and playful. Despite its weight of 2,273 kg, the driving experience feels effortless. The CUPRA mode delivers exhilarating bursts of acceleration.
Consumption and Range: Up to 522 km?
The Cupra Tavascan VZ, with its all-wheel drive and extra power, offers a range of up to 522 km in the WLTP cycle. This is due to its 77 kWh usable battery (82 kWh gross), equivalent to an average consumption of 14.7 kWh/100 km. In real-world testing, the mixed consumption was around 16.5 kWh/100 km, providing an approximate real-world range of 460 km. The Tavascan VZ can handle 11 kW in AC charging and 135 kW in fast DC charging, taking 8 hours to charge from 0 to 100% and 28 minutes from 10 to 80%.
Cupra Tavascan VZ: Starting from €64,930
The Cupra Tavascan VZ is priced at €64,930, reflecting its appeal and performance. For a more budget-friendly option, the Cupra Tavascan V starts from €46,990. While the V model is produced in China and does not qualify for bonuses, it offers a more aggressive design compared to competitors like the Skoda Enyaq Coupe. Despite its divisive design, the Tavascan stands out for its performance and versatility, making it a compelling choice in the electric SUV market. What are your thoughts on the Cupra Tavascan VZ?
