Skoda Elroq: Leading the way in the future of electric compact SUVs!

The Skoda Elroq will be the brand’s next electric SUV. Ahead of its official reveal, we had the opportunity to take it for a test drive.

Skoda is expanding its range of 100% electric vehicles with the upcoming Elroq, which stands for Electric Karoq. This new compact SUV will enter a crowded segment by the end of the year. We had the chance to drive a fully camouflaged model ahead of its official launch.

The Smooth Driving Experience of a Skoda Enyaq

Skoda invited us to take the first test drives of their upcoming all-electric SUV. The models we drove were close to production-ready, with only some parts of the interior still camouflaged. The driving experience felt refined, with features like a 9.3m turning diameter and adjustable braking levels using paddles behind the steering wheel. The Elroq felt comfortable and responsive, especially in city driving conditions.

A Well-Known Platform

The operation carried out in Amsterdam was based on the MEB platform, known for its use in other electric vehicles from the German group. The Elroq’s driving experience was familiar and solid, with no noticeable development aspects in the vehicle. The SUV exhibited good handling characteristics, and the use of driving modes and braking options added to the overall driving experience.

A Slightly Firm Comfort…

While the driving experience was smooth and enjoyable, the suspension felt a bit firm at low speeds, especially from the rear. The Elroq’s body control seemed adequate, but further testing on a variety of road conditions is needed to fully evaluate its performance. Skoda assured us that certain aspects, like suspension tuning, are still being refined in pre-production models.

An Overall Efficient Powertrain

The initial test models of the Elroq come equipped with a 77kWh battery and a 286hp (210kW) electric motor. These specifications are similar to the Skoda Enyaq 85 model, promising a balanced and efficient powertrain. Despite not measuring the performance during the test drive, the Elroq’s weight suggests comparable figures to other electric SUVs in its class.

The reported energy consumption and estimated range of the Elroq showcase its efficiency, with a theoretical range of 520km. Further testing will provide more accurate data, but Skoda’s focus on balanced performance and recharge capabilities sets the Elroq apart from its competitors.

Four Versions Available

Skoda will offer the Elroq in four versions, catering to different battery capacities and power outputs. The range will include the Elroq 50, 60, 85, and 85x models, each designed to meet specific customer needs. All versions will feature an 11kW onboard charger for convenient home and public charging, with fast charging capabilities reaching up to 175kW.

A Impeccable and Welcoming Interior

Fully concealed behind stickers, the SUV’s design elements remain a mystery, but the interior flaunts the brand’s Modern Solid signature. The Elroq’s cockpit features sustainable materials, offering a warm and inviting ambiance. The layout mirrors recent Skoda models, with a prominent 12.3-inch touchscreen display complemented by a digital instrument cluster and augmented reality head-up display.

Remaining Details: Pricing

Skoda plans to unveil the Elroq officially in the coming months, with pricing details to follow. The Elroq seems well-positioned to compete in its segment, offering a comprehensive standard equipment package, practical features, and a mature electric powertrain. While its direct competitors remain to be seen, the Elroq’s performance and charging capabilities make it a promising contender in the electric SUV market.
