The McMurtry Speirling continues its development and track records. At Hockenheim, driver Max Chilton set a track record for a bodied car.
With its Batmobile appearance modified by a cartoonist, the McMurtry Speirling can be amusing. But on the track, the small bomb is no joke and proves to be more than formidable.
This electric prototype holds the record for 0 to 100 km/h in one and a half seconds. While it was discreet, the Speirling made its mark on the Hockenheim circuit.
The track, which was once used for Formula 1, also hosted the German DTM championship. Competing against international racing cars was a challenging task.
But the McMurtry Speirling did more than meet the challenge by setting a record. With a time of 1’23″43, this small vehicle beat the record for a bodied car by over three seconds.
It was the previous generation of DTM cars that set this record in 2020. By referring to bodied cars, it excludes single-seaters like Formula 1. The best time for an F1 car on this circuit is 1’11″21.
On the other hand, the Speirling’s time is equivalent to a GP2 car, which serves as a stepping stone to F1. Furthermore, its time is 14 seconds faster than that of the Mercedes-AMG ONE with an F1 engine.
