Words without actions?

A recent study commissioned by the YouGov Institute, conducted by the specialist in mobility solutions for businesses, Alphabet France, shows that a majority of French people are willing to hit the road for their vacations in an electric car (all categories of vehicles included). According to this study, 51% of the French surveyed believe that it is possible to travel to their vacation destination in a 100% electric car. Specifically, 19% think it is “completely possible,” while 32% say it is “rather possible.”

This is an encouraging result considering that a very small percentage will actually hit the road for their vacations in a 100% electric vehicle this summer. However, it is essential to note that these figures represent those who believe it is feasible, not those who will actually do it.

The study also reveals that the psychological barriers related to electric vehicles, especially autonomy, are gradually breaking down among French citizens. According to the study, the data varies by age group. Participants aged 25-34 are 66% likely to believe that they can travel to their vacation destination in an electric vehicle, while the percentage drops to 56% for the younger drivers (18-24 years old) and only 45% for respondents aged 55 and above.

Furthermore, the study highlights regional variations. In the Paris region, 60% of respondents believe it is possible to travel to a vacation spot in an electric vehicle, while in the northeastern part of the country, the number drops to 42%. The study also indicates that residents of larger urban areas are more convinced of the feasibility of traveling to vacation spots in electric cars.

Additionally, the study evaluated differences in attitudes based on different professional statuses. For 63% of unemployed individuals, traveling to their vacation destination in an electric vehicle is conceivable, compared to 59% of students, 53% of working individuals, and only 42% of retirees. This shows that retirees, who have mainly used traditional vehicles, may find it more challenging to embrace the idea of electric cars for travel.
