After the successful launch of its SU7 sedan, Xiaomi is actively preparing its second model. It will be an SUV, with early prototypes already hinting at its design.

Busy delivering the thousands of orders for the SU7, Xiaomi will not be launching its second electric vehicle this year. However, growth ambitions remain strong, and by the first half of 2025, the sedan will be joined in electronic stores by an SUV.

The camouflage on the prototypes still hides the details. But what they show suggests that this SUV will take design elements from the sedan, similar to Luxeed’s R7 compared to the S7. However, the silhouette does not seem to be mimicking, like many Chinese SUVs do, the Tesla Model Y.

Recall that Xiaomi aimed to make its sedan a particularly dynamic model, with the Porsche Taycan as a benchmark. The SUV follows the same path with unusual proportions: a long hood, relatively low cabin… Another crossover is referenced here, and a significant one at that: the Ferrari Purosangue.

Xiaomi recently patented a reverse opening system for rear doors. However, the covers seem to show a rear door handle in the usual place. These reverse opening doors could be an option, similar to what Aion does with the butterfly doors on its Hyper HT SUV.

On the technical side, we can expect a similar configuration to the Xiaomi SU7 sedan: 220 kW in rear-wheel drive or 495 kW in dual motor all-wheel drive, with battery options of 73.6, 94.3, or 101 kWh.
